Today was spent making mini donuts and photo booth faces.

Seriously - donuts! They were pretty tasty. There were three different toppings we tried, cinnamon + sugar, chocolate, and glaze with sprinkles (check it out!). I got the idea from Vegan Yum Yum - but since I'm not vegan, I altered the recipe a bit. I used an egg instead of replacer, butter instead of earth balance, added 3/4 flour, left out the vinegar and nutmeg (not a fan of it), and put in a cup of apple sauce. They ended up having a sort of appley cinnamon taste! To get the awesome little donuty shape - I used a non-stick mini donut pan gifted to me by Chris' brother and wife. (THANK YOU!) I love this little donut pan. So fun! Nomnomnom. I'm dreamy in mini donutland.

Light blogging thoughts after the weekend.

 

I hope you all had a nice weekend. I spent mine relaxing, riding my bicycle, and having a nice afternoon with my friend Laila.

 

We sat on her new porch and people watched over wine, guacamole and pandora radio. Her new porch is perfect!! I'm envious - just high up enough on the hill to have privacy, but close enough to do some super fun people watching... Saw lots of people we recognized zoom by on bicycles!

 

On one of my bicycle errands, I picked up a new copy of Love and Rockets (exciting!! It has two chapters of a story by Jamie in it!) and Moomin book #3. I had never had a chance to read any of the Moomin comics until now, and I love love love them!! I want to get the two books before this one now. Its a very child-like, simple read, but makes me smile and giggle lots.

 

Chris had cut up some piece of scrap wood for me to work on earlier this weekend, and I've been slowly coating them with different mediums to make them easier to paint and draw on. I tinkered on one with out any medium, it came out a little rough. And then I painted Moomin on one with absorbent ground - I think it came out nicely!

Later on this week/weekend, I'll be dusting off the etsy to put some of these mini wood pieces up for sale.

Also, today marks my last day of physical therapy (hooray!! I started in August) and I am now pretty much back to normal activity. I've been riding my bicycle to work without my hip giving me any problems which is faaaannntastiiic! Though tomorrow, I will be walking to work...because I made cupcakes! Fun Halloweenish fall ones for my co-worker's birthday. I hope they make it in one piece!

I hope you all have had an excellent holiday break this weekend!  I am feeling pretty content and all smiles due to the last few days - they were exciting, filled with friends and art. Friday, I had a few of my friends come over through out the day and we ate chips and dip, made crafts & craaazy cupcakes, and watched a movie later on in the evening over a dinner made by my boyfriend. 

It was quite fabulous - and I learned a new transfer technique that I have been going nuts over all weekend from my friend Laila.  As soon as my boyfriend gets in his new camera this week, I'll take some better pictures of the large wood block piece I'm working on with this transfer method and explain how to do it.  The above image is two small postcards I made with the transfer technique for my cousin and my friend.

On Sunday, my boyfriend and I installed the new shelves on in my studio area and then I went to an super fun cook out at Laila's. We ate lots of tasty food, celebrated her friends birthday, played croquet and set off fireworks.  She also showed us some of the lovely artwork that her and her sister had made over the years and it was very inspiring!

I'm going to end there for now and try to post again Thursday.  I have a long long week ahead of me and I want to get to bed early so I can have a good start tomorrow!  On a closing note of a lovely friend filled weekend, here is a nice quote from one of my favorite authors:

ack! delayed posting

I was so so busy last Sunday that I wasn't able to get to my weekly posting! Gasp!  I doubt anyone noticed, but I'll do a quick recap...

Lots of knitting went down - matter of fact so much knitting that I ended up breaking one of my needles at Parkgrounds.  Ack!  I spent the rest of the weekend knitting with one good needle and one poorly repaired one until I was able to go pick up new needles at Knitch this Tuesday.  Up until Tuesday I was so desperate for my needle to come back that I tested out using a similar shaped chopstick and a paintbrush.  It was goofy and worked awfully. :P

Went to Critical Mass, first time since September!  Holy cow, its been a while.  I had a good time and the weather was great, I'm looking forward to going again next month.  Hooray for bikes!

I also finally got some icing tips and tested them out on cupcakes I made for my friend Laila's birthday.  I mixed up some light purple icing and and topped them with star shaped sprinkles.  They are a little wonky but not bad for a first try.  I definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys baking to try some icing tips out.  I just got a cheap little set from Target and they worked great.

Sold two more things from my etsy - my felt cat pins!  I also ordered a huge set of inks, screens and bulbs for my Gocco printer.  I'll be posting about that this weekend.  I took of Friday just to relax and play with the stuff!
