I just finished up a commission for a laaaarge painting on wood - and for the first time ever, I made a sort of tutorial showing how I work on paintings! There aren't any words, but it covers a good bit of the process I went through to get to the finished piece. I know it goes pretty fast (all the little layers and details take forever!) but let me know if you have any questions on how I did things, and I will try my best to answer! And be warned: I'm all super dorked out in painting clothes.

Below: first (pencil) and second (digital) concept sketches.
What took place before the video: I first fleshed out my idea on paper, then moved to the computer to get colors picked out and layered them on top of a photo I took of the wooden base. Once I was comfortable with my idea, I moved onto the real thing...

The final:
When the two pieces are put together, its 4x4ft. Acrylic, ink and colored pencil on wood. The little pink bits on the finger tips, elbow, nose, chin, lips and hair are all iridescent pink paint which was really fun to use! When you are standing at the right angle, it really shimmers! On the top left and bottom right are little paper doll dresses in white and brown. You can see up close shots at on my flickr.

That's it! I hope you guys had a lovely weekend and enjoyed my video!
