This week was many things - it was Fat Tuesday, Pika's Birthday, The beginning of my venture into the land of Knitting, and fun times at the salon getting color put back into my hair. To say it was a exciting fun week is an understatement! Pika's birthday was first thought to be Tuesday, in which we stayed home and played with her all night and took pictures of her. After calling my mom that evening we realized that her birthday was actually Thursday, and slowly the week turned into a celebrating Pika's birth week. Shes pretty spoiled. But sooo cute. We also got a king cake to celebrate Fat Tuesday this week, which was super tasty creamcheesetastic. Its a good thing that day is only once a year, I ended up eating the majority of that cake myself even though I took half to work. Ack!
And then theres New Explorations in crafting! Zoom! This week was the beginning of my knitting classes at Knitch! The shop is filled with shelves of fun types of yarn of all different colors, and is decorated with my favorite shade of blue through out. I was really adoring the way the whole store is laid out; you just really feel comfortable there and want to find an excuse to hang out and make things! I brought home a little knitting homework too which I'm pretty giddy about and I am looking forward to finishing it. Right now I'm learning the basics - we are making a really simple pot holder to get the hang of things, and then I think next week we will branch out and do more things. The teacher said by the end of our classes we will make a pattern for a scarf, pick out our favorite yarn and create it! I'm so excited, I'm already eyeballing this beautiful teal and gold glitter yarn with a funky texture that I saw when my mom and I first stopped in the store. I hope its still there when it comes time to make something with it!!
As soon as my class had ended I had to make a mad dash to the salon where I had an appointment to get my hair colored. Very exciting for me since the only fun hair color I've had in the past six months were my white highlights (which were so so tedious. Ack.) Katy at Flick colored my hair for me and she made it a really nice experience because she not only did a wonderful job, but was very friendly and nice to talk to! I definitely recommend her. The color is exactly what I was wanting, and the placement is very fun - it gives me three great options. I can wear my hair regularly and its just a nice accent, or I can part it on the side and pull my bangs away and its very prominent and bright, or if I want it to go away completely I can just tuck my hair behind my hair and tada! No more green. Very awesome and versatile.
Today I visited with my mom a bit. We got lunch and coffee at a tasty seafood restaurant she likes and then afterwards made a brief visit at my Aunt Terry's house to see her new dog, and then swung by my Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Neil's house to say hi to them and see the new room they added onto their house. Whew! Lots of little stops. My Aunt Kathleen and I were talking about stuff I was interested in at the moment and what I wanted to do craft wise with decorating my room, and I mentioned to her how I wanted to paint the telephone chair she got me and put a vintage phone on it so it makes more sense... (I get a lot of questions as to what on earth that chair is) She was like hold that thought, let me show you a phone I have! Turned out she had a phone in the exact color I wanted, and she gave it to me! I was pretty surprised and excited, I cant wait to paint my chair now and take pictures of the two together. My crafting room is slowly getting decorated how I want! She also sent me home with tootsie rolls and a bag pattern so hopefully I'll be tackling the project of making myself a new purse soon (while munching on candy mmm).
This was such a nice calm weekend, I really enjoyed myself. Even the weather was beautiful and warm. Some random things I'd like to mention before I wrap this up - I'm not a huge follower of celebrities, matter of fact I'm rarely very interested in reading about or listening to anything to do with them However when I was at the salon this weekend, on of the girls there brought me two magazines to flip through while waiting, and one of them was Allure. They had an article on Sarah Jessica Parker, which was actually very interesting and good, along with another article on simple ways to be happier and improve your moods. I was actually kinda inspired after reading these two articles, mainly because some of the tips on the happiness article were so simple but made a lot of sense (ex.: performing 5 random acts of kindness a week), and Sarah Jessica Parker just sounded like over all a really nice and pleasant celebrity. To see some of the photos from the Sarah Jessica Parker article, click this link. I couldn't find anything on the article about happiness, but if you come across the February issue of Allure, I think its worth thumbing through and briefly reading "Get Happy: Simple Ways to Lift Your Mood", because it had some really great tips. Another one of the tips I can remember off the top of my head was exercise, which is an obvious, but not gym exercise... outdoor exercise! They said outdoor exercise vs. indoor was more stimulating and less likely to lead to depressing thoughts. So check it out.
Final word - I made some new pins! They are fun little cat faces. Mew ! I am putting them up on my etsy tonight, so check them out! click here for a link
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
